Dental Implants

Tooth loss can compromise the appearance of your smile and negatively affect your oral health. At Windermere Dental Group in Orlando, FL, Dr. Susana Moncada can restore missing teeth with dental implants. Why should you choose dental implants?

What Are Dental Implants?

Implants are devices made of durable titanium that act as prosthetic tooth roots. They support custom restorations such as crowns, dental bridges, and dentures to replace missing natural teeth. Whether you are missing one tooth, several teeth, or all of your natural teeth, implants provide a host of benefits to give you a beautiful, healthy, and fully functional smile once more.

Contact Us Today!

At Windermere Dental Group, we provide the highest level of restorative dentistry. Missing teeth can lead to issues with eating and speaking, leaving you with limited oral function. With dental implants and a custom restoration, such as a crown or a full set of dentures, you can eat the foods you love and speak with confidence knowing your restoration will remain firmly in place.

Need bone grafting before you can qualify for implants? No problem. Dr. Moncada can perform bone grafts to restore your candidacy. In some cases, she can provide tooth extractions and implant placement on the same day.

How Do Dental Implants Keep Restorations Stable?

Over a period of months, implants naturally fuse with the bone tissue of the jaw in a process called osseointegration, becoming a permanent part of your anatomy and providing a secure base for an implant-supported crownbridge, or denture. Osseointegration takes three to six months, so you won't experience the full benefits of treatment right away. But once this process is complete, your replacement teeth will be as stable as your natural teeth once were.

Take a look at how dental implants are placed at our Orlando dental practice...

The implant is fitted with an abutment (connecting device) that will join the implant with the replacement tooth to completely replace a missing natural tooth from the root to the chewing surface.

The Dental Implant Process

Unlike other dentists who refer their patients to outside specialists for dental implant surgery, Dr. Susana Moncada is qualified to perform every step of the implant process herself in our Orlando office

Dental implant treatment takes several months to complete and requires multiple appointments. However, the natural-looking, functional smile you'll have at the end makes it well worth your time.

Here is what you can expect during treatment...

Implant Surgery

Your first appointment involves the placement of the implants. Dr. Moncada will first numb the area before creating a small incision in the gums. She will then insert the posts through the gums and into the jaw. We typically embed an implant in the place of each absent tooth, but it depends on the type of restoration you require.

Osseointegration

Now, the posts will be left to heal for four to six months. During this time, the implants will completely fuse with the surrounding bone through a process known as osseointegration. Our dentist can provide a temporary restoration for you to wear during this time.

Abutments

Once the osseointegration process is complete, you will return to our office in Orlando for a second surgical procedure. Dr. Moncada will attach connector pieces known as abutments to the implants. The abutments will soon attach your titanium implants to your prosthetic teeth. After this minor surgery, a second healing period of a few weeks is required.

Designing Restorations

After placing the abutments, Dr. Moncada will take impressions of your bite and send them to our partner dental lab, where experienced technicians will custom-craft your restorations. Patients missing one tooth will only require a crown, while we may recommend an implant-supported bridge or denture for patients missing multiple teeth.

Placement

Finally, you will return to our Orlando office one more time to receive your completed smile. Dr. Moncada will check the position and appearance of the implant-supported restoration and make any necessary adjustments. Once satisfied with the results, we can attach the artificial teeth to your implants.

Dental Implant Candidacy Factors

tooth, dental, gum, pain, Swollen, gingivitis, inflammation

Good Oral Health

To qualify for implants, patients must be in good oral health (other than their tooth loss.) If you have other conditions such as periodontal disease, we will have to address these concerns before beginning implant treatment.

Sufficient Bone Density

Patients must have a sufficient amount of jawbone density to support the embedded posts. If you have experienced extensive bone atrophy, Dr. Moncada may recommend a bone grafting procedure to restore your candidacy.

No Smoking

Smoking can affect the body's ability to heal after implant surgery and increase the risk of complications. If you smoke, we recommend quitting several months prior to treatment and abstaining throughout the duration of your recovery period.

Dental Implants Cost

At our practice in Orlando, FL, restoring a single tooth with an implant usually costs between $3,600 and $4,500. While this may seem costly, patients agree that the long-term benefits of implant dentistry are worth the price.

Some dental insurance plans may cover aspects of implant treatment. For any out-of-pocket costs, we work with multiple financing companies, including CareCredit®, that allow you to break the overall cost of treatment into manageable monthly payments.

We help our patients experience the best dentistry possible within their budgets. If you have questions about the cost of dental implants, please contact us.
